Parking Control Officer

The City of Greenville is seeking individuals to join our Parking Division as Parking Control Officers. This position enforces municipal parking regulations within the City limits by issuing citations, patrolling assigned areas, assisting with special events, and more. Part-time position working approximately 15-19 hours per week including nights and weekends. No benefits are earned for this position.

Examples of duties include patrolling assigned areas on foot or via vehicle or Segway to enforce parking regulations; responding to parking complaints outside of the normal patrol areas as needed; issuing citations and arranging towing for vehicles found in violation of City ordinances as appropriate; time marking vehicles parked in time restricted zones; noting improperly parked vehicles and taking appropriate enforcement action; recommending justifiable excuse of violations; noting malfunctioning parking meters and reporting same to maintenance personnel; answering inquiries from the general public and providing directions and street locations; participating in public information sessions to educate citizens on City ordinances related to parking; filing traffic citations according to established procedures; preparing daily reports of activities; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and prior ordinance enforcement experience preferred, but not required. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include skilled in written and oral communication, operating assigned equipment, learning and becoming familiar with local parking ordinances and others that relate to public safety, being firm but tactful with the public, presenting a good public relations image, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees and the general public, and performing work requiring good physical condition.

Special requirements include currently possessing a valid driver's license issued by N.C. This position may require work to be performed on nights and weekends. Regular part-time, temporary, and seasonal employees are not eligible for benefits.
