Accounting Technician

Summary

This position serves as an Accounting Technician for the VISN 7 Consolidated Accounting Office (CAO). This position will perform the function of either Obligator or Payer, as assigned.

Duties

THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder . The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-07.

At the GS-05 / 06 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-07.

Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds.

Major duties and responsibilities include :

• Processes accounting transactions for a variety of functions.
• Performs either the financial management system obligator or payer function.
• Classifies accounting transactions.
• Maintains and reconciles accounts.
• Prepares reports and statements and analyzes accounting data.
• Validates, monitors, controls, and maintains accounting transactions and accounting records for multiple accounts.
• Reconciles subsidiary ledgers to general ledgers for accounts having a variety of transactions.
• Researches discrepancies between ledgers and makes adjustments.
• Provides assistance and training to fund control point contacts.
• Participates in the internal audits of fiscal programs, vulnerability assessments, and many other program audits involving cost, obligation, and receivable accounting systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule : Monday-Friday 8 : 00am-4 : 30pm
