About the Role

The Company is seeking a Vice President of Engineering to play a pivotal role in the development of secure, decentralized, and private messaging. The successful candidate will be tasked with building and leading the engineering organization, driving strategic planning, and shaping the technical vision in alignment with the company's goals. This foundational leadership position requires a seasoned technical leader with a minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership capacity, and a proven track record of scaling high-performing teams. The VP of Engineering will be responsible for defining and evolving the engineering strategy, championing technical excellence, and ensuring the high-velocity delivery of complex projects.

Key responsibilities for the role include organizational leadership, execution, and delivery, technical leadership, and fostering a culture of ownership, quality, and high performance. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of technical trade-offs, protocol design, and system architecture, with a strong preference for those experienced in developer infrastructure, tools, or protocols. They should be adept at making smart architectural decisions, holding a high bar for execution and accountability, and be comfortable overseeing both protocol-level complexity and consumer app execution. A high EQ leadership style, with a focus on mentorship, accountability, and alignment, is essential. Nice-to-haves include experience with secure messaging, cryptography, or open-source protocol development, as well as familiarity with React Native, Swift, Go, Rust, or Kotlin.
