Position Summary

An Engineer II is responsible for designing intermediate building systems, preparing design documents, and performing engineering calculations in coordination with project teams. They are responsible for occasional task management and mentoring of less experienced designers.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Performs calculations and designs basic to intermediate design systems with minimal supervision.
  • Prepares system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics.
  • Reviews shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Prepares or modifies reports, plans and designs for projects.
  • Performs research and makes recommendations as to the feasibility of systems or equipment. Evaluates products for their application.
  • Provides technical guidance to others when appropriate.
  • Collaborates on business development or pursuit activities.
  • Participates in client, company and industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Fosters a client-centric mindset and approach.
  • Communicates with clients as needed for development and coordination of requirements and scope of work; maintains proactive communication throughout the project cycle.
  • Answers questions from clients and architects.
  • Visits job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Assists in resolving conflicts involving owners, architects and contractors as needed.
  • Identifies and seeks to fill gaps in industry and / or discipline knowledge on a continuous basis.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry software (e.g., Revit, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office); acts as a resource for training or assisting others as needed.
  • Researches and reviews new products, industry trends, and evolving codes and standards.
  • Understands and applies Henderson's design guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs a limited range of project management responsibilities under the supervision of experienced managers; asks questions when performing unfamiliar tasks.
  • May support or be responsible for project coordination activities such as managing emails, coordinating scope and schedule, attending client meetings, ensuring project quality, responding to client questions, and coordinating project delivery.
  • Carrying a PE license and functioning as Engineer of Record (EOR) when enabled : make engineering decisions and deliver high-quality work with accountability to projects.
  • May be enabled as an Engineer of Record with additional involvement, oversight, responsibility and accountability for signing and sealing the project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of engineering (e.g., mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) and 3 years of relevant experience, or 5 years of experience without degree; Professional Engineering (PE) license may count toward 1 year of direct experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design, A&E industry codes, design guides, and standards; knowledge across a range of practices is preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu.
  • PE license preferred.
  • FE exam, LEED and / or WELL accreditation preferred.
  • Strong technical aptitude; ability to learn and apply various systems and processes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication; ability to communicate with designers at all levels clearly.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate in group projects and lead less experienced designers; capable of independent work as needed.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and organizational needs; able to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Open to receiving and giving constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering design software applicable to your discipline.
