RRTs work in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings, providing essential care for patients with conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and those requiring mechanical ventilation or life-support. Their role involves performing diagnostic tests, administering respiratory treatments, and assisting with ventilator management in critical care settings.

Patient Assessment and Evaluation :

Assess and monitor patients’ respiratory status, including performing tests such as arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis, spirometry , and pulmonary function tests.

Respiratory Therapy Treatment :
\n \n
Administer therapeutic treatments to patients, including oxygen therapy , nebulized medications , and inhaled corticosteroids .

\n
Ventilator Management :
\n \n
Set up and monitor mechanical ventilators, adjusting settings based on patient condition and physician orders.
\n
\n
\n \n
\n
Patient Education and Support :
\n \n
Educate patients and their families on respiratory care techniques, such as the proper use of inhalers, nebulizers , and home oxygen therapy .
\n
\n
\n \n
\n
Emergency and Critical Care :
\n \n
Provide emergency care for patients experiencing respiratory distress or failure, including intubation , rescue breathing , and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) .
\n
\n
\n \n
\n
Diagnostic Testing and Interpretation :
\n \n
Perform diagnostic procedures such as spirometry , pulmonary function tests , peak flow monitoring , and oxygen titration to evaluate lung function and diagnose conditions.
\n
\n
\n \n
\n
Collaboration with Healthcare Team :
\n \n
Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement respiratory care plans.
\n
\n
\n \n
\n
Patient Monitoring and Documentation :
\n \n
Continuously monitor patients' respiratory status, adjusting therapy and equipment as needed based on patient response.
\n
\n
\n \n
\n
Quality Control and Infection Control :
\n \n
Ensure respiratory equipment is properly cleaned, maintained, and sterilized to prevent infections.
\n
\n
