Lab Support Services Technician – Phlebotomy

Performs blood collection on all patient populations and ages using a variety of procedures. Utilizes a positive patient identification device to monitor new orders and draws that are pending. Uses critical thinking skills / problem solving when identifying more difficult collections and alternative procedures to complete blood draws. Interacts with nursing staff, providers, other hospital staff, patients, family members and co-workers to meet the needs of the patient.

Adheres to all local / state / federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.

1)Ability to perform job duties and assigned tasks with accuracy, reliability and precision.

2) Ability to be organized to complete job duties and assigned tasks within expected timeframes.

3) Ability to compassionately and effectively interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors.

Workflow Management Ability to appropriately respond to :

1) fluctuations in volume,

2) unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or IS failure,

3) shift-to-shift hand-offs,

4) STAT test orders,

5) specimen integrity issues that exceed threshold
