TITLE : Mechanical Designer I
OVERVIEW : The Mechanical Designer provides expertise and support in a variety of areas including :
- Being a knowledgeable Mechanical Designer, adhering to company, department, and client drawing standards and procedures, and having a general understanding of required mechanical sizing calculations.
- Following procedures and collaborating to prepare design deliverables that meet project requirements under general supervision of the Mechanical Engineer.
- Remaining continually vigilant in finding opportunities to improve quality and efficiency.
- Using data from structural and electrical disciplines, as well as client and vendor information sources to prepare mechanical drawings.
- Designing a variety of industrial projects with extensive, basic use of Revit.
SPECIFIC DUTIES :
Proactively communicate and coordinate design work within the department, with other disciplines, and with external stakeholders such as clients and vendors.Work with other designers and engineers as team member on projects.Participate in project and interdepartmental meetings to facilitate successful completion of projects and to meet customer expectations and needs.Have awareness of project budgets and schedules.Understand and apply concerns of safety, maintenance, accessibility, constructability, and coordination.Learn company's current design software.Contribute, under the direction of mechanical engineer or senior designer, to the production of typical project deliverables, such as individual views :FlowsheetsGeneral Arrangement Plans and SectionsChute DetailsDuctingDetailsPiping Plans and SectionsPiping IsometricsVendor Request for Quote Drawings3D Representations (isometrics, perspectives, photographs)Establish and utilize an appropriate level of detail between modeling and drafting for both conceptual and detailed engineering stages.Accurately incorporate information from mechanical and electrical equipment vendor drawings into final deliverables.Accurately size, locate, dimension, and tag mechanical members and components on drawings.Issue and record drawing submittals and revisions.Check your design and drafting against red marks for errors, omissions, and adherence to company standards.Understand layout requirements and routing criteria for mechanical chute, duct, and piping systems.Continuously update and expand knowledge of the mechanical field as well as knowledge of client processes and facilities.QUALIFICATIONS :
Associate Degree in Design Drafting or equivalent education and experience.Minimum 2 years' experience in mechanical design drafting with heavy industrial experience preferred.Experience producing models and documents from Revit, plus experience with AutoCAD and Office software.Excellent communication skills with an understanding of teamwork and the requisite ability to coordinate work with internal and external project stakeholders.Strong organizational skills to effectively manage time and resources in the most efficient manner. The ability to multi-task on several projects and adapt to changing scope and deadlines. Diligent taking of notes during project discussions. Efficient and organized email communications.Commitment to maintaining the company's professional image and reputation with timely, error free, accurate deliverables, which meet or exceed clients' expectations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Generally, the position requires proficient computer skills with extended periods of six to eight hours sitting and entering data into a computer with intense attention to detail.
Occasional lifting on the job is generally limited to moving computers, scanners, manuals, or files whose length and size cause them to be clumsy to move around, and whose weight is usually under 30 lb.
