Overview

Ecologist – ERWM, Department of Natural Resources. Location : Yakima. Hourly Wage : $28.29 Regular / Full-Time. Announcement # 2025-294. Issue Date : 09-24-25. Closing Date : 10-08-25.

Reports to the ERWM Program Administrator and serves as ERWM lead in survey of ecosystems and assessment of plant, water, soil, and animal samples for the Yakama Nation and within the ceded Yakama territories and within the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Follows direction from and works closely with ERWM management, DNR Administration in protection of the natural environments. Work detail involves a combination of field and lab work and analysis.

Example of Work Performed

• Reports to the ERWM Administrator and assists in ERWM staff in Hanford Nuclear activities requiring field research, collection of data and monitoring of soil, plant, water, animal samples, ecosystems, wildlife and historical patterns, population number, diet, behavior, habitat use.
• Participates in the day-to-day work activities related to project requirements at Hanford and educational outreach.
• Identifies potential project goals and priorities for management and elected official approval.
• Works collaboratively with ERWM staff.
• Through established chain of command, prepares and provides reports both written and oral, committee actions, for actions taken and approvals necessary.
• Delivers presentations, participates in forums, and shares expertise and makes recommendations.
• Provides weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports that effectively track the completion of project tasks and are deliverable.
• Uses Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to collect and process data for documentation, reporting and presentation.
• Researches and develops data to study historical patterns, diet, behavior, population numbers and habitat use.
• Conducts scientific investigations, classification of organisms, plants, animals, and assistance in identification of contaminants.
• Participates with ERWM staff in continuous cleanup and restoration actions at Hanford and considers Yakama Nation Treaty reserved cultural resources.
• Conducts research to expand biological control knowledge and effects of pollutant contaminants released into the atmosphere on wildlife and vegetation at identified Hanford locations.
