The Asset Protection Market Investigator owns leading and coordinating theft, fraud, and organized retail crime investigations within an assigned market to achieve maximum shrink prevention and protection of company assets.
This position reports to the Manager of External Investigations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert on external investigations / fraud and all the tools / technology to support.
- Identify, case build and successfully resolve investigations related to external theft
- Develop strategies and tactical plans to resolve theft and fraud in stores.
- Conduct static and vehicle surveillance of individuals suspected of theft and / or fraud
- Build and maintain highly effective professional relationships with law enforcement at the local, state, and national levels without losing sight of business priorities and company values.
- Partner with Law Enforcement and Mall Security to facilitate the apprehension, arrest and prosecution of individuals involved in shoplifting and Organized Retail Crime.
- Testify in criminal proceedings when required; work collaboratively within the judicial system to ensure prosecution and maximize restitution opportunities.
- Participate with law enforcement networking meetings, including attendance at ORCA meetings within the assigned area(s).
- Effectively leverage all investigative tools (exception-based reporting and other data analytics, cameras, etc.) to identify and share theft trends with AP team.
- Investigate refund fraud; ensure effective strategies are deployed to reduce and prevent further losses.
- Maintain video library and BOLO files of known shoplifting suspects
- Partner with and educate store leadership teams and sales associates on external theft awareness and prevention.
- Maintain a high degree of personal accountability and follow all company policies, to include but not limited to policies around surveillance, reporting, case management, and prosecution.
- Maintain awareness and understanding of industry trends and current professional standards regarding investigations in the retail sector.

Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
- 5 - 7 years in asset protection investigative or related experience
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
- Must be self-motivated and manage time effectively
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Must be well-versed in use of CCTV systems
- 50% travel expected
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field
