The Position
The Electrical Engineering Software Designer will contribute to machine concepts, design of control software, integration of software with electrical and mechanical systems, process development, and machine installation at customer sites worldwide. The incumbent will also work on programming and integration assignments utilizing PLCs, PCs, robotics, motion controllers, vision systems, lasers, and other controllers while delivering the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.
What Youll Be Doing
- Design and test machine control programs as per customer and project requirements based on standard Eclipse methods
- Provide a programmers perspective during the mechanical and electrical design phase of the project
- Select, test and integrate hardware and software components such as robots, analog devices, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems and lasers
- Work with other members of the Controls Engineering department and other groups to continuously improve methods of design, with the goal of enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and reduced cost
- Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete, functional automation system
- Provide accurate documentation for each project
- Advise customer on solving technical problems
- Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work within a team environment and actively participate in group meetings
- Position requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel as required in varying timelines
- Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Eclipse Automation Inc. Conduct of Code
- Foster the development of a culture reflective of the core values of the business
- Provide customer with training specific to their current project (i.e. machine operation, programming principles and program structure)
What Were Looking For
Preferred, 1 2 years of experience within a custom automation environment (OEM)A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervisionStrong programming, mechanical and electrical problem-solving skillsExperience with either RSlogix / Studio 5000 or TIA Portal software platform would be desirable.Understanding of control systems, robotics, and machine operation with hands-on experience.Experience using Industrial robots is considered an asset.Knowledge of various safety standards such as EN ISO 13849 OR EN 62061 would be an assetExpectation of travel to vendor / supplier locations less than 50% of the time, however, may be exceeded in exceptional circumstances to meet project needsWhat We Offer
