Position Summary

As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at VMC, you will provide executive leadership to the business, driving operational excellence and ensuring the effective delivery of property management services to affordable housing communities.

The COO will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's strategy, overseeing day-to-day operations, creating accountability to drive results across the enterprise, and fostering collaboration to achieve organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Operational leadership :

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight of all operating activities, ensuring alignment with the company's mission, vision, and values.
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to optimize processes, streamline workflows, and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Quality Property Management :

  • Develop and implement best practices in property management to ensure the highest standards of service delivery.
  • Work closely with property managers and teams to uphold quality standards, resident satisfaction, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Strategic Planning :

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the company's strategic plan, with a focus on growth, expansion, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to grow top line revenue while diversifying service offerings and expanding market reach.

Team Leadership and Development :

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration accountability, and innovation.
  • Implement professional development initiatives to enhance the skills and capabilities of the operations team and ensure the necessary bench strength for robust succession planning.

Client Relations :

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring client satisfaction and addressing any concerns or issues promptly.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the relationship with existing clients, increasing their awareness of other services offered and finding additional ways to add value.

Financial Management :

  • Work closely with the Controller to develop and manage budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation and financial sustainability.
  • Monitor key performance indicators to assess the financial health of operations and make data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

  • Most importantly, an authentic heart for the nature of the work that we do at VMC, serving populations of people in need and providing them with dignity, hope, and opportunity through quality living environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role with direct experience in the affordable housing, property management, or non-profit sectors serving populations impacted by poverty is highly desired.
  • Strong understanding of affordable housing programs and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Robust financial acumen and understanding of financial reporting.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to be a hands-on leader who leans in with their team and is part of accomplishing results.
