Must-Have : Labor and Delivery, Nursery, and some newborn stabilization experience

Description :

This position involves working in a Labor and Delivery unit.

Nurses will float to Medsurg and Peds as needed.

C-sections will be performed in the operating room, with Labor RNs accompanying the patient for stabilization of the baby.

Recovery will generally continue on the floor for two hours after stabilization.

The unit has 4 L&D beds and 4 postpartum beds.

Births per year average around 250.

The patient-to-nurse ratio follows established guidelines.

Common diagnoses include preeclampsia, cholestasis of pregnancy, and repeat cesarean sections.

RNs are required to titrate drips for medications such as Pitocin and magnesium sulfate.

There is no Charge Nurse on each shift; a coordinator is available for support.

Anesthesia is on-call and located nearby.

RNs may need to troubleshoot respiratory equipment but will not be responsible for extensive use.

The shift schedule allows for self-scheduling to meet unit demands.

Navy blue is the designated scrub color.

The unit promotes a friendly environment with an emphasis on teamwork and effective communication skills.

Candidates must be adaptable and willing to float to other areas if needed.
