Electrical Journeyman
The Department of Facilities Management supports the mission of the University of Denver's physical resources in order to provide a healthy and safe educational environment for campus community through services of the departments of Capital Projects and Planning, Facilities Management, Parking & Mobility Services, Auxiliaries & Real Estate, and Business & Operations. Position Summary This position performs skilled work in the electrical trade area. This is a journeyman level position which works with little or no supervision. May also perform tasks in other trades to a limited degree depending on the needs of the University. Essential Functions In addition to following the University of Denver's policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications and must be able to effectively communicate with supervisor, co-workers and other staff and faculty within the community. Basic math skills required when measuring, and performing take offs for miscellaneous jobs. Detailed procedures. Daily priorities are established by the worker. Employee responds to situations requiring immediate attention. Expert skills. Competency in electrical fields / functions. Knowledge of all types of electrical equipment and standard methods, practices, tools, and materials of the electrical trade. Understanding of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions of the trade, electrical codes, and principles of practical electricity. Must be knowledgeable of related OSHA and EPA regulations and be able to effectively communicate regulations to others.
Required Qualifications A high school diploma or G.E.D. Four years in the field of electrical work Licensed by State of Colorado as a Journeyman Electrician Valid Colorado drivers license or equivalent. Expert skill, competency, and knowledge in electrical fields / functions. Knowledge of all types of electrical equipment and standard methods, practices, tools, and materials of the electrical trade. Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions of the trade, electrical codes, and principles of practical electricity. Must be knowledgeable of related OSHA and EPA regulations and be able to effectively communicate regulations to others.
Preferred Qualifications Familiar working with CMMS software, including WebTMA or similar work order system. Knowledge of lighting control systems.
Working Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places, in confined spaces, in trenches and ditches, and in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, dusty conditions, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Unexpected interruptions often occur, and stress level is moderate to high.
Physical Activities Moderate to strenuous effort required. This position requires extended intervals of standing, walking, climbing, bending, crouching, working at heights from ladders, scaffolds, platforms and repetitive motions of the hand / wrist and elbow / shoulder. The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 100 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to climb and balance and talk and hear. Workers must also have the ability to work in confined, noisy, hot, and cold spaces and work with hand tools and shop equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color comparisons, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Successful candidates for this position will require a post-offer, pre-employment health screening.
Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. - 4 : 30 p.m.
