Forensic Scientist - Center for Forensic Science Advancement and Application (CFSAA)
Overview
The Center for Forensic Science Advancement and Application (CFSAA) leads programs that help improve the reliability of forensic sciences and advance the use of science and technology in safety and security.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) establishes the scientific and technical guidelines to be used by U.
S. Federal agencies and drug testing facilities for federally regulated drug testing. Testing must be performed at facilities accredited by SAMHSA under the National Laboratory Certification Program (NLCP).
We are currently seeking a Forensic Scientist to work in the inspection and performance testing sections in support of the NLCP.
Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to :
- Review inspector reports from inspections of HHS-certified drug testing laboratories
- Develop summary reports and correspondence for laboratories
- Review laboratory correspondence to verify appropriateness of corrective actions taken in response to issues / deficiencies identified in the inspection and performance testing phases of the program
- Review laboratory data from testing of donor specimens and performance testing samples to assess test performance as well as compliance with Federal requirements
- Perform as an NLCP inspector in onsite inspections of HHS-certified laboratories
- Assist in investigations of issues in Federal and federally regulated workplace testing by reviewing laboratory data, standard operating procedures, and reports
- Work in a team environment as well as with individual task assignments requiring initiative, responsibility, and accountability.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
- BS in the chemical or biological sciences and 1 year of experience in a forensic testing laboratory; OR MS degree in the chemical or biological sciences
- Knowledge and experience in application of laboratory QC and QA procedures.
- Qualified as an analyst using immunoassay and MS (GC-MS, LC-MS, LC-MS / MS), including review of data from immunoassay and MS testing.
- Knowledgeable in the operation of laboratory equipment (GC-MS, LC-MS, LC-MS / MS, pH meters, analytical balances, pipettes, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Ability to listen and communicate well both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Work experience as an analyst, supervisor, or certifying scientist in a laboratory conducting workplace testing for drugs of abuse in various biological matrices (urine, oral fluid, hair)
- Experience working in an HHS Laboratory
