JOB DESCRIPTION\n\nSummary of Performance Expectations\n\nProvides professional nursing care and makes nursing care decisions that are appropriate for the age and condition of the patient, using the nursing process. Collaborates with other health care professionals to meet the needs of the patient. Responsible for adhering to CVMC / departmental policies, procedures, and philosophy to deliver quality patient care, practicing within the guidelines of the North Carolina State Nurse Practice Act and abiding by the CVMC Nursing Bylaws.\n\nEducation And Credentials : \n\nRequired : \n

• Graduate of accredited nursing program.\n
• Current NC RN license or licensure from Nursing Compact State.\n
• BCLS certification. If the BCLS certification is not from the American Heart Association (AHA), an AHA certification is required within three months of employment date.\n\nBachelor Of Science In Nursing Degree Requirements : \n
• Effective May 4, 2015, all newly employed Registered Nurses and all current employees promoted to Registered Nurse positions are required to obtain a BSN or higher nursing degree.\n\nExceptions : \n
• RNs employed in positions at Catawba Valley Medical Group (CVMG), Fairgrove Primary Health (FPH), Catawba Valley Infectious Disease (CVID), Catawba Valley Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbarics (WHC), and Catawba Valley Psychiatric Services (CVPS) are exempt from this requirement.\n
• The BSN or higher nursing degree must be completed within five years from the date of employment or placement into the RN position.\n
• Incumbents in CVMC RN positions on the effective date will not be required to satisfy the BSN degree requirement to maintain their current position, be promoted to a charge nurse or Operating Room specialty RN position or apply for lateral RN positions in another CVMC department.\n\nExceptions : \n
• RNs transferring to the IRT department are subject to the BSN requirement.\n
• Effective 03 / 28 / 2019 : RNs transferring from CVMG, FPH, CVID, WHC, or CVPS into RN positions at CVMC are subject to the BSN requirement.\n\nAdditional Requirements by Practice Area\n\nBirthing Center ACLS and NRP within three months of employment date.\n\nCritical Care Unit ACLS within three months of employment date.\n\nDay Surgery ACLS and PALS within three months of employment date.\n\nEmergency Dept. ACLS and PALS within three months of employment date. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification within three months of employment date.\n\nHeart and Vascular Services ACLS and PALS within three months of employment date.\n\nInfusion Center Full-time RNs : Chemotherapy certified via ONS / ONCC Chemo / Immunotherapy Certificate Course within eight months of employment date; renewed every two years.\n\nInpatient Rehabilitation Quality Indicator credentialing within three months of employment date.\n\nIntermediate Care Unit ACLS within three months of employment date.\n\nLevel III Nursery NRP within three months of employment date. STABLE within one year of employment date, renewal not required.\n\nNewborn Nursery NRP within three months of employment date. STABLE within one year of employment date, renewal not required\n\nOncology ONS / ONCC Chemotherapy / Immunotherapy Certificate Course within one year of employment date and renewed every two years.\n\nRadiation Oncology ONS Radiation Oncology Certificate Program within one year of employment date.\n\nPACU ACLS and PALS within three months of employment date.\n\nPediatrics PALS within three months of employment date.\n\nPsychiatry Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification within three months of employment date and renewed at least bi-annually for the first year and annually thereafter.\n\nPreferred : \n\nBSN (BSN enrollment and completion requirements may apply), specialty course work and certification in area of practice.\n\nWork Experience : \n\nRequired : \n\nNo previous experience required, except as listed below.
