Job description

Our Self-Help program helps low- to moderate-income households construct their own homes in rural areas.Founded in 1993 in Santa Cruz County, the program is targeted to families who are unable to purchase a home through conventional methods and has helped more than 250 families build and own their own homes.

Weekend schedule (Sat & Sun) with Mondays in the office. Put your construction skills to work teaching, supervising, and making a real impact in the community.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Construction Supervisor is responsible for the adequate training and supervision of the participants in the construction of their houses under the Self-Help Program. Under the supervision of the Construction Supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise clients / volunteers in the building of homes under the Self-help TA grant guidelines. This position does not supervise CPLC employees.

SPECIALIZATIONS

  • Teaches tool use safety, maintains, safe working conditions and obtains adequate tools for the job being done
  • Organize work crews, along with the construction supervisor, for maximum efficiency of manpower and materials
  • Prepares purchase and scheduling of materials and the scheduling of sub-contractors and vendors
  • Attempts to maintain good group human relationships in cooperation with the group coordinators
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to delegate authority and responsibility
  • Interest in development of Self-Help Housing in Southern Arizona
  • Very organized and have ability to organize the activities of others
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

    Education / Background :

  • Professional building skills with union or equivalent construction experience; but must have not only the skills but also the ability to each them to others
  • Must have the ability to delegate authority and responsibility
  • Must have reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Should have experience as foreman, superintendent or private building
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) desirable
  • Other Requirements :

  • Reliable and responsible supervisor
  • Individual is required to pay close attention to details
  • Able to work weekends (Sat and Sun)
