Soils Manufacturing and Compost Operations Supervisor

The Soils Manufacturing and Compost Operations Supervisor is primarily responsible for building engineered soils, managing the composting program, and managing the material handling area. He or she recognizes that high quality soils and compost promote healthy plant growth and establish the foundation for beautiful and useful landscapes across the BYU campus.

What qualifies you for this role :
Required qualifications :
Education : Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or a closely related fieldOR Experience : At least 2 years of full-time professional experience in one or more of the following areas : Landscape Management or Grounds Maintenance, Environmental Science or Land Stewardship, Heavy Equipment Operation related to grounds or construction work, or other directly related fields involving plant care, soil management, or site operationsApplicable supervisory and training skillsEffective project management, including good record keepingAdhere to and train others in safety guidelinesOperate heavy equipment : loaders, trommel screen, grinder, recycling balerPhysical Exam and Lift Test Required
Physical Effort : Moderate Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions.
Environment : Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters
Hazards : Frequent existing or potential hazards
Physical Requirements :
Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, kneeling, raking, shoveling, and leveling for 6 8 hours per day. Closed-toe shoes and gloves are recommended for safety.Participate in snow removal as needed. Appropriate cold-weather gear is recommended (hat, gloves, boots, layered clothing, and sunscreen).Operate equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, track hoes, and loaders. Eye and hearing protection, closed-toe shoes, and gloves are required.Regularly enter and exit trucks and heavy equipment, and engage in reaching, walking, and climbing. Protective gear is recommended.Preferred qualifications :
Hold a current Class A Commercial Driver's LicenseAbility to operate hook trucksSound understanding of soil science, applied soil physics, horticulture, and soil mechanicsSound understanding of soil testing concepts and techniquesPay Grade : 52
Typical Starting Pay : $31.25 to $40.50 an hour
