The ELL / Immigrant Family Advocate develops strong relationships with families of bilingual immigrant students in the Brockton Public School system. Seek and connect community agencies with the families for multiple services. Provide intensive support information and resources regarding school-related meetings events specialized educational services documents and protocols. Guide families to fully participate in the education of their children. Must be familiar with the laws and regulations that govern the education of students whose first language is not English and advise parents of school program options and their rights. Possess strong communication skills in order to interact consult and contact families and service providers in the : Certificate in Interpretation and Proficient in Spanish and English; Strong interpretation and translation skills able to conduct simultaneous interpretation and translate written documents (educational legal parent notices etc.); Possess value and be responsive to the cultural racial ethnic differences of families and individuals being served; Strong connections with the multilingual communities and organizations in Brockton; Maintain an atmosphere of professionalism confidentiality and consistently reinforces parental involvement; Familiar with the laws and regulations that govern the education of students whose first language is not English; Strong organizational skills some computer skills helpful and comfort in communicating with diverse populations school administrators and staff and community agencies; High School and Responsibilities : Assist and inform families about school-related procedures and advocate for immigrant children enrolled in the school system Educate and assist families with school and community transitions Meet with and assess family needs to assist in locating resources and services Identify sources make referrals and develop relationships with community agencies and follow-up providers Empower and encourage immigrant families to make use of all identified resources and fully participate in school and community events Develop good rapport with families community service providers and staff including communicating in respectful and culturally appropriate ways. Staff the advocate center; attend staff meetings and in-service trainings as required.
