UW Medicine Insurance Eligibility and Financial Counseling Services Team (IECS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Financial Counselor Lead .
WORK SCHEDULE
100% FTE (40 hours per week)
Monday - Friday; 8 : 00am-4 : 30pm
Day Shift
Hybrid after a 6-month probation period
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
This is an onsite position for the first 6 months, with potential for transitioning to a hybrid work schedule upon successful completion of the probationary period
Serve as a team lead, supporting staff through training, guidance, and performance feedback. Collaborate with the supervisor to assign tasks, monitor quality, and resolve issues.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Interview patients to assess insurance coverage and refer uninsured patients for Medicaid or Financial Assistance screening
Train, orient, and support new Financial Access Specialist (FAS) staff
Review and correct team members' work for policy and procedural compliance
Monitor, evaluate, and recommend updates to policies and workflows
Provide cost estimates and review payment options with patients
Guide patients through Financial Assistance processes and track application status
Communicate with external agencies (e.g., DSHS, AEM) to verify application progress
Obtain required patient signatures on financial forms, such as Notices of Non-Coverage
Coordinate with supervisors to resolve unclear insurance or coverage issues
Participate in special projects and stay current through training and education
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED certificate
Three years of experience in a medical office setting
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements
