Institutional Advisor is the primary advisory role on Buckingham’s Institutional Services Team. In collaboration with the Director of Institutional Services, this team delivers an exceptional Outsourced Chief Investment Officer client experience to a growing and diverse group of small to mid-size institutional clients, predominately nonprofit entities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Deliver consistent, proactive client service that includes the management or oversight of custom portfolio solutions across multiple accounts with diverse purposes.

Manage cash flows in and out of portfolios keeping clients updated on the status of money movements. Process charitable gifts in the form of appreciated securities or other assets in ways that are sensitive to a client’s fundraising and accounting needs.

Assist with special requests from general ledger accounting questions to responding to audit requests.

  • Design, prepare and conduct customized client meetings that engage staff and volunteer stakeholders as collaborators in the investment process including education on evidence-driven investing, capital market conditions, portfolio construction and manager selection as well as portfolio level performance, manager oversight and progress being made to achieve quantitative and qualitative investment objectives.
  • Manage the quarterly institutional reporting process that provides each client with a customized investment report reflecting educational content on market conditions along with portfolio and manager level performance data benchmarked to each client’s specifications.

This process includes compiling data from a variety of external sources and internal data systems into Excel and PowerPoint templates used to generate the final reports.

Identify and secure new client relationships through new business opportunities aligned with the practice’s ideal client segment.

The team pursues qualified opportunities through an RFP or RFI which involves preparing customized narrative answers to questions, conducting related analysis to model sample investment solutions, and managing the staff and volunteer relationships overseeing the selection process.

When invited, prepare and deliver presentations to selection committees that make the final selection in these bidding processes.

Onboard new clients through the team’s discovery process that gathers a wide range of fiscal, programmatic and investment background to inform our investment planning process that clarifies investment objectives, evaluates the alignment of current investments with those objectives and develops evidence-driven, customized portfolios capable of delivering forward-looking returns aligned with their goals.

This process also involves investment and endowment policy work as well as multiple client meetings and meeting packets that engage staff, board committees, and the full board in adopting eventual recommendations and related policy documents.

Experience

  • 5+ years of direct experience in financial services advising, analysis work, portfolio management and trading or other experiences that demonstrate competency with related skills and knowledge.
  • Series 65 within 100 days of employment.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Completion of or progress towards a designation such as the CFA or advanced degree such as an MBA is encouraged.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Collaborative Team Member with a passion for learning, investments, and the drive to advocate for clients and colleagues.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to work one-on-one and in committee settings with members of our clients’ senior management teams and members of their governing boards, some of which are experienced investment professionals or business leaders.
  • Naturally diligent, focused on the details, with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize deliverables in a demanding environment.
  • Strong writing and visual communication skills to present investment data and investment related ideas in ways that are easy to understand for clients with limited technical expertise.
  • Comfort with and demonstrated competency in working with accounting / trading software solutions and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Prior working relationships with investment managers and custodians.

This is a salaried position with an opportunity for an annual bonus and long-term incentives as well as a competitive benefits package.
