Job description

Position Overview

You will function as a Structures Superintendent supervising field work and may have responsibility for multiple Foreman, and/or laborers/craft workers. You with be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specification, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work, either directly or through General Foreman or Foreman. You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architect/engineer, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Northwest District is one of our largest infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, structural concrete/bridge, water/wastewater, and transportation projects. We self-perform work such as mass grading, drainage, paving, utility and more - so be ready to get your hands dirty! While headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, the majority of our work is concentrated on the West Coast including Alaska and Hawaii . We are looking for people committed to the construction industry rather than design.

Location

This position is located in Washington. However, one of the many things that makes Kiewit’s culture unique is that we go where the work is, which exposes your career to abundant opportunities. We relocate our teams based on the work that is available, combined with the development plans, skill sets and career goals of each team member. This means your Kiewit adventure is custom-designed to meet our shared needs.

Our Northwest District currently builds projects in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. Travel is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site daily supervisory direction of craft workers via the general foreman and foreman, managing the performance of productivity, safety, quality and schedule adherence for Structure operations including structural concrete, MSE walls, and precast girders
  • Liaison between field engineering and craft to ensure compliance of construction drawings and specifications
  • Coordinate and interface effectively with other superintendents and subcontractors, as well as Kiewit staff personnel and leadership to ensure smooth workflow and schedule adherence
  • Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and scheduling difficulties, informing project and corporate management as appropriate
  • Develop and implement construction schedule following company standards and expectations
  • Assist in overall project schedule planning, determining craft labor levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements
  • Ensure project rules, procedures and programs are followed consistently, including those involving safety, attendance, and workplace behavior standards as reflected in Company’s non-harassment and nondiscrimination policies

Qualifications

  • Ability to travel and relocate as needed
  • 5+ years’ work experience in the construction industry, with at least 3+ years in a supervisory role
  • Previous knowledge/experience in infrastructure and concrete structures setting required
  • Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, union agreements and jurisdictional issues, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings and other documents
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently supervise and evaluate craft performance
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
  • Ability to lead and motivate construction teams
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with the ability to work
