Pharmacy Technician

This position is located at 28th Medical Group Ellsworth Air Force Base, in South Dakota. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Responsibilities Duties :

• The incumbent serves as a dispensing pharmacy technician performing most or all of the following duties that can range from routine to difficult. Receives and reviews prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals to include controlled drugs on the formulary.
• Determines type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity to be dispensed in accordance with accepted practice and pharmacy standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Enters prescriptions into outpatient computer system reviewing profile for allergies, drug / drug or drug / food interactions, and duplicate orders.
• Coordinates with prescriber or pharmacist to clarify issues or problems with dosing, interactions, or instructions.
• Scans the prescriptions for the filler and checker after typing prescriptions and then fills the prescription; obtains the pharmaceutical, prepares package labels, visually inspects the medication in the bottle to be dispensed, verifies appropriate medication, checks the printed label affixed to the container against the original prescription for correctness.
• When the prescription has been filled and labeled, container is set aside for a final check by the supervising pharmacist.
• Incumbent attends the dispensing window for pick up; provides instruction to patients on proper use of medications, referring questions requiring professional knowledge and experience to the registered pharmacist.
• Performs all outpatient functions with minimal supervision by the registered pharmacist.

Qualifications Basic Requirements : US Citizenship required Must possess and maintain current licensure in a state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Must have one year of specialized experience which includes utilizing automated pharmacy systems to enter and retrieve data, dispensing medications to correct customer, and relaying information to patients on proper use of medications.
