Overview
StraCon Services Group, LLC is seeking a Part-Time, Senior Visual System Engineer with visual display engineering experience to support the DoD aviation training system for NAWCTSD in Orlando, FL. The Visual System Engineer, Sr. will be responsible for the following requirements and related activities.
Responsibilities
- Upgrade of Visual Display Systems components and interfaces on Aviation Training Systems.
- Prepare and analyze technical documentation and develop technical design approaches for training systems.
- Provide alternative design approaches with tradeoff analyses and identify technical risks.
- Conduct NAWCTSD System Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR).
- Apply decision analysis techniques to ensure an engineering approach is cost effective and meets training objectives.
- Prepare a technical description that includes a block diagram and mathematical models after determining the proper engineering approach.
- Determine the degree of fidelity of the simulation necessary to maximize transfer of training.
- Conduct functional and physical configuration audits with established test procedures.
- Monitor the configuration management of the training system.
- Assess training system hardware and software development status and assist in resolving related programmatic issues.
- Evaluate technical proposals and work statements submitted by contractors or in-house resources; recommend the best technical approach in response to the specification.
- Clarify engineering design ambiguities and resolve design conflicts in the proposed engineering approach.
- Document the configuration, design, and performance characteristics of the proposed training system.
- Develop quantitative criteria and recommend tradeoffs regarding inputs from supporting personnel concerning training system changes.
- Provide contractor support to planners for budgeting and planning purposes.
- Develop engineering specifications detailing design, performance testing, and provisions for acceptance of engineering changes.
- Integrate new and legacy training systems.
- Analyze potential modification requirements on training systems in the operational phase of the life cycle, including coordination with fleet activities, government laboratories, and device / system users.
- Develop engineering specifications and other documents in accordance with NAWCTSD Orlando policies and procedures on Technical Procurement Package Preparation and Processing.
- Review training system contractors' design approaches, criteria, and design reports; monitor contractor performance and address delinquencies or deficiencies as appropriate.
Qualifications
Experience Requirements
At least ten (10) years of practical experience with systems engineering in modeling and simulation within the training and training systems domains.Desired : at least five (5) years of acquisition experience, with three (3) years in a DoD program directly supporting Training and / or Training Systems Acquisition.Experience with technologies such as collimated display systems, back projection screens, image generators, display projectors, helicopter chin and side window projected displays, projector auto-alignment systems, cockpit monitoring systems, visual databases, and training device host computer systems (hardware and software).Ability to coordinate with a variety of professional personnel and apply federal Acquisition Regulations, Military Standards, and DON / DOD / NAVAIR policies to assignments.Ability to engage with NAVAIR Orlando TSD product user activities and sponsors.Experience with Marine Corps training systems (e.g., UH-1Y and AH-1Z Flight Training Device and Full Flight Simulators) is highly desired.Education
B.S. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, visual engineering, aeronautical engineering, aerospace engineering, or mechanical engineering. Master’s degree preferred.Security Requirements
