Job description

Receptionist For The Division Of Human Resources

This position will serve as the Receptionist for the Division of Human Resources and will be the first point of contact for visitors and callers. Key responsibilities include answering phones, directing inquiries, greeting visitors, taking messages, receiving / distributing mail, preparing informational packets, typing, filing, scanning, and maintaining a clean / organized reception and copy area. The Receptionist will need strong customer service skills, excellent communication, and the ability to multitask effectively to create a welcoming and professional environment.

Civil Service examinations are not required under the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) Program.

Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications :

Competitive Minimum Qualifications :

You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b / c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

70.1 Transfer :

For 70.1 transfer to Office Assistant 1, SG-6, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b / 55-c service in an approved title.

To determine if your current Civil Service title is eligible for transfer to this title, visit the Career Mobility GOT-IT website : Career Mobility Office GOT-IT (ny.gov)

Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Excellent customer service skills and friendly demeanor including over the phone, via email and in person.

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Ability to maintain and organize a high volume of electronic and paper files in a precise and efficient manner.

Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with others.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires significant multi-tasking and changing priorities.
