Summary :
Performs certain functions of revenue cycle operations to improve the efficiency of the department's net revenue realization, while minimizing revenue leakage across the service line.
Responsibilities include charge entry, fielding requests, collaborating with prior-authorization staff, interacting with patients, departments, physicians / clinical staff and insurance companies to resolve billing concerns / issues.
Optimizes revenue through charge capture, recommends updates for charge master, auditing, reviewing and processing denials and appeals, working with contracts, and performance improvement initiatives.
Functions as an expert source of information, providing staff and provider education regarding oncology billing through the impact of documentation of patient care with the goal of achieving correct reimbursement.
Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements regarding billing processes.
Formal Education Required :
a. High School Diploma or equivalent
b. Associate's degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare or closely related field preferred.
c. Certification as an insurance and coding specialist preferred
Experience & Training Required :
a. Two (2) years related experience in a medical environment to include experience with billing regulations, Revenue Codes, and CPT-4 and HCPCS procedure codes.
b. Experience related to oncology patient charges and revenue preferred.
c. General knowledge of CPT, HCPCS and ICD10-CM coding guidelines
d. General knowledge of medical terminology & anatomy and physiology with specialized knowledge of oncology related terms preferred
e. General knowledge of managed care, Medicare & Medicaid reimbursement guidelines

a. Computer knowledge and skills (Word, Excel, Cerner / Lynx, Epic / CarePath, Quadax / Xpeditor, database management)
b. Ability to perform multiple tasks and appropriately set priorities
c. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
d. Population Specific Competency : Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients / customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
Level of Physical Demands :
a. Sedentary : Exerts up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently.
The salary range on this job posting / advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
