Duties and Responsibilities :
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University Northridge invites applications for a post-doctoral researcher in Surface Mass Spectrometry.
The hiring manager desires an applicant who can lead an independent research project focused on the characterization of semiconductor-related materials and biological materials using secondary ion mass spectrometry.
Specifically, novel hybrid semiconductor materials produced by project collaborators and extracellular vesicles provided by project collaborators.
The project involves using custom-built instruments located at California State University Northridge and collaborator facilities.
Laboratory management responsibilities will include but are not limited to assisting the manager in providing experimental and technical supervision of one or more graduate students or undergraduate students.
Opportunities for student mentoring are available. Additionally, the candidate is expected to assist in routine laboratory operations such as equipment maintenance and assisting in safety training.
Qualifications :
The minimum qualifications are a PhD in chemistry or biochemistry or chemical physics along with familiarity with mass spectrometry-based chemical analysis.
Experience with secondary ion mass spectrometry instrumentation or methods is desired. A record of previous scientific output (peer-reviewed publications) and strong writing and communication skills are also required.
Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities :
Advanced skills in data analysis and interpretation including multivariate analysis are desired. A successful candidate will be able to provide updates on research progress during group meetings, biweekly meeting with project collaborators, write scientific manuscripts for peer reviewed journals, disseminate research at national and international conferences and meeting through oral or poster presentations, and assist the PI in writing grant proposals.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).
Full Pay range : $66,560 - $122,760
The anticipated hiring range : $66,560 - $71,500
Time Base : Full-Time
