About the Opportunity

This is an open position with the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. SC00

The Senior Engineer provides leadership on key initiatives and projects within the Distribution Standards organization. The senior engineer actively participates in industry working groups including the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), IEEE, and National Electric Energy Testing Research and Applications Center (NEETRAC).

This position can be sited at any FirstEnergy location in Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, or New Jersey and is considered remote (mobile).

Responsibilities include :

  • Strong safety discipline and awareness at all times
  • Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations / requirements.
  • Providing a high level of customer service, continuous support, and proactive involvement to leadership and fellow peers surrounding technical subject matter in the areas of power quality, distributed energy resources, distribution automation, volt-var, arc flash, and distribution protection.
  • Recommending and implementing technical solutions to complex issues and assignments.
  • Serving in a leadership role for the development of designated programs and policies.
  • Educating and directing others on technical subject matters, improving technical programs and process effectiveness, and making significant contributions to the achievement of element goals and objectives.
  • Championing continuous improvement teams and / or initiatives across FirstEnergy
  • Developing process improvements and efficiencies to improve work products and processes.
  • Independently anticipating and meeting internal / external technical needs.
  • Serving in a leadership role for the development of designated programs and policies.
  • Providing direct support to operating company personnel through webcasts, workshops, and training.
  • Conducting technical research and analyzing highly complex data; interpreting results; providing recommendations to high-level solutions,
  • Actively seeking ways to build challenge and add value within scope of assignments.
  • Consistently anticipating and delivering results.
  • Providing advice, education, and encouragement to others.
  • Supporting the storm response process as either a storm analyst, hazard dispatcher, hazard responder, or in another corporate storm role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are : a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
  • Minimum of 3 to 8 years' engineering experience is required
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word. Experience with SAP, Brio, CYME, and GISView a plus.
  • In-depth understanding of applicable technical products and / or services and of customer needs and expectations.
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships
  • Able to achieve active learning through a continued effort to develop breadth of knowledge, skills, and perspective.
  • Desire to continue to learn and grow, work across FirstEnergy, deliver results, and manage others.
  • Excellent technical analysis and technical writing abilities
  • Able to develop effective working relationships with employees at all levels of FirstEnergy Corp.
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; Able to effectively present complex subject matter to all levels.
