Minimum Requirements :

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of professional experience in systems analysis, management analysis, program planning, program research, program evaluation, engineering or administrative work. Or a master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. Or professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. Requires possession of a valid driver license.

Job Duties :

This is a highly specialized position where the incumbent will act as a Wildfire Mitigation Specialist. This individual will conduct and coordinate fire prevention activities as directed and assigned by the immediate supervisor. Maintains active contact with fire services, especially those covering high risk wildfire areas. Works with the Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) groups in each county to ensure that wildfire is listed as a hazard on the LMS and that needed fuel reduction projects are included on the LMS project list. Develops a local wildfire mitigation plan annually in conjunction with FAS and Center Manager. This plan includes the prioritization of areas according to wildfire risk, prioritizes projects needed to lower wildfire risk based on the risk ratings, and an action plan for getting the projects completed. Works with the FAS to identify communities at risk in need of homeowner education and / or workshops and provides workshops as needed. Works with the identified communities to develop both a Fire wise plan and a CWPP. Works with county officials to incorporate Fire wise principles into county planning, county codes, county regulations, and county comprehensive plans. Prepares an annual budget based on the annual mitigation plan. Works with the regional Fire Management Team to coordinate assistance on mitigation projects. Assists and supports the activities of the District / Center Fire Prevention Committee. Actively searches for, identifies, and applies for outside funding to complete local mitigation projects. Develops mitigation project plans for areas needing private contractor work, preparing maps and project descriptions, ITB's, contract development, and serves as the contract manager for mitigation projects with private resources.

Information Officer, Incident Command System. During all incidents this position will act as Information Officer. This individual will prepare copy for news release services, utilizing computer software, either via electronic mail or hard copy print. Provides area information about mitigation programs available, current mitigation projects taking place, and the successes of those projects. Provides area information about wildfire, wildfire causes, and wildfire prevention; highlights and publicizes the successes of the Center and other items which help in the flow of information to protect the health, welfare, and safety of the affected citizens. Acts as point of contact for media related to wildfire issues, gives interviews and coordinates incident visits for the media and VIPs. Maintains active contact with all local PIO's and coordinates activities and messages. Coordinates activities with the State Office Information Coordinator as requested.

This position will be familiar with still, digital and video camera equipment to record ongoing events and promulgate pictures and videos of such quality as to make available for distribution and training. This position will work with local fire services and other agencies to establish a mechanism to decrease man-caused fires. This may include the use of Arson Task Force Committees, joint planning, and other programs which lower the fire starts in the field unit. Develops Incident Action Plans that will enhance emergency response and reduce damage potential during wildland / urban interface fires. Performs related work as required.
