We are currently looking for an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our dynamic, fast-paced, and growing team. The EHS Specialist is responsible for responsible for the oversight of safety for our first with occasional coverage on our second shift should business needs dictate. The position is accountable for supporting all EHS activities at our sites including monitoring EHS objectives and targets, internal reporting of EHS department performance and ensuring our EHS programs, policies and procedures are implemented and sustained. The EHS Specialist will also ensure compliance with local, State and Federal regulatory requirements and support a strong safety culture that engages all employees throughout our sites.
What You Will Be Doing

- Interact with Rhoads team members on the production floor to identify hazards, assist with corrective actions, mentor and instruct on best practices and foster a positive relationship that encourages a best-in-class safety culture.
\n
Support and conduct safety & health inspections by completing audits, initiating corrective actions for identified findings, assisting with closing action items, and assessing preventative measures within all site departments.\n
Apply the Company’s incident / accident prevention program. Investigate all incidents / accidents, identify root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented according to regulatory and site EHS requirements.\n
Support the Director of Safety, Director of Risk Management and EHS Specialists in maintaining a coordinated injury abatement program through the development, engagement, and tracking of leading and lagging indicators relevant to EHS performance.\n
Conduct safety training to include classroom and on-the-job training (OJT’s) for Rhoads Industries employees and subcontractors utilizing approved training materials. Research and suggest training content relevant to Rhoads Industries’ scope of work.\n
Review new work processes, customer facilities and projects, including equipment plans, to ensure proper safety and health controls have been fully considered and incorporated.\n
Verify and maintain all OSHA and other regulatory documentation to include incident / accident reports, equipment inspection reports, training records and other related safety documentation.\n
Ability to read, understand & interpret OSHA 1910, 1915 & 1926 Standards and US Army Corp of Engineers EM385 to ensure compliance with present and future OSHA laws, rules, regulations, standards, and policies.\n
Serve as a member of the Rhoads Industries Safety Committee.\n
Maintain confidentiality with all investigations and medical records.\n
Able to take instruction, display knowledge of the work being performed and be able to retain and apply skills taught.\n
Liaise with Rhoads Industries contracted Occupational Medicine Services Provider with all medical matters to assure Rhoads Industries CEO and Business Line Managers are aware of the status of all OCCMED matters that affect the employees assigned to their Business Line.\n
Make suggestions and recommendations to project supervisors to enhance our safety culture.\n
Plan the direction, oversight, control, and execution of safety measures to ensure industrial hygiene and other related tasks are performed safely to minimize the exposure of hazards to site personnel.\n
Champion and lead projects designed to improve our EHS program in conjunction with reducing risks to achieve Rhoads Industries business sustainability objectives.\n
Additional duties as assigned.\n \n
Your Background
\n \n
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study preferred\n
5+ years of experience as an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist\n
Due to the sensitivity of this role and associated federal requirements, candidates must be U.S. Citizens (non-dual citizenship) and able to obtain and maintain U.S. Navy badging credentials as a condition of employment.\n
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a motor vehicle record (MVR) that meets Rhoads Industries’ insurance eligibility standards.\n
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health Certification required.\n
Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe); EMT certification preferred.\n
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and related software applications.\n
Ability to influence, engage, and foster relationships with employees at all levels to drive safety awareness, compliance, and continuous improvement.\n
Self-motivated and proactive EHS Specialist with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.\n
Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.\n
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear direction and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.\n
Demonstrated experience with OSHA compliance, safety auditing, and risk management practices.\n
Ability to evaluate, analyze, and communicate safety issues in coordination with the Director of Risk Management, Director of Safety, craft personnel, and EHS team members.\n
Willingness to learn and interpret job safety requirements based on project bid specifications and operational needs.\n
Monitor, review, and execute the Rhoads Industries OSHA Plan while continuously educating employees on program requirements and expectations.\n
Review and update Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to ensure accuracy and ongoing compliance with safety standards.\n
Evaluate all Project Work Plans for safety and regulatory compliance.\n
Develop, compose, and track implementation of Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs) for Rhoads Industries facilities and project worksites.\n
Conduct regular site visits to review JHAs, verify documentation, and ensure adherence to safety policies, with a focus on high-priority and large-scope job locations.\n
Implement and support safety training programs to ensure compliance with the Rhoads Industries OSHA Plan and promote a strong safety culture across all teams.\n
Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and contribute to overall environmental, health, and safety performance goals.\n \n
The Work Environment at Rhoads

The performance of this position involves exposure to construction and industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include hard hats, safety glasses and hearing protection is required.\n
Must be able to work in a variety of physical conditions including sitting, standing, walking, and driving an automobile.\n
May require walking and standing on irregular, uneven surfaces in an industrial setting including climbing & descending ladders and ship stairways, and exposure to increased heights. Must be capable and able to enter confined spaces.\n \n
