Position Summary :
The Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations and nursing staff of an assigned unit within a long-term care or skilled nursing facility. This role combines leadership and direct care, ensuring high-quality resident outcomes, regulatory compliance, and effective team coordination.
Key Responsibilities :
Clinical Oversight :
Coordinate and oversee all nursing care provided on the unit.
Ensure care plans are accurate, updated, and followed.
Monitor resident conditions and ensure timely physician and family notification of changes.
Conduct clinical rounds to assess resident status, evaluate staff performance, and address care issues.
Participate in resident admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Administer medications and treatments as needed in compliance with policies and physician orders.
Leadership & Supervision :
Supervise and mentor nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) on the unit.
Provide ongoing coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective actions when necessary.
Assist with hiring, onboarding, and staff development.
Create and manage staffing schedules to ensure proper coverage.
Ensure staff adhere to infection control, safety, and clinical protocols.
Regulatory & Quality Assurance :
Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, including documentation and resident rights.
Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
Prepare for and assist during state surveys and audits.
Investigate incidents and implement follow-up actions or reporting as required.
Communication & Coordination :
Communicate effectively with families, residents, staff, physicians, and other departments.
Participate in interdisciplinary care conferences and resident care plan meetings.
Support a positive, respectful environment for residents and staff.
Qualifications :
Current RN license in state of employment, in good standing
Minimum 2–3 years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care or skilled nursing
Previous supervisory or charge nurse experience required
Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Proficient in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and care documentation
Current CPR / BLS certification
