East West Tea is seeking a talented, passionate, and experienced Principal Scientist to join our Quality Assurance team to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Yogi, leading Regulatory Affairs, to ensure compliance and management of legal risk.

This role will work with our Global technical and commercialization teams to bring our products to life for consumers. You will work with the Quality, Brand and Product Experience teams and other cross functional partners on assigned Projects and Technical Programs, helping bring inspiration to the world.

You will use your knowledge of the Regulatory and Legal environment, (21 CFR part 101,111 etc.), to ensure our products are compliant within a changing market as we maintain our portfolio and innovate in Hot tea and other new categories.

Your ability to think strategically, create solutions and communicate effectively to diverse teams will be key to success in this role.

As the Principal Scientist, you will provide the expertise and professionalism required to be successful in a dynamic business environment, modelling agility and resilience.

Leveraging your experience in Food and Supplement labelling, and creation of Claims Substantiations, you will collaborate with a cross functional team to review and optimize labelling to meet Yogi objectives and ensure we maintain the trust of our Contributors and Regulatory entities.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN :

  • Provide technical leadership to ensure Regulatory compliance and management of Legal risk.
  • Review labeling and external communications content for our Supplement and Food (Tea) Products.
  • Lead optimization of label / content review processes.
  • Create, lead and collaborate on Claims Substantiation process to ensure compliance and commercially relevant consumer communication.
  • Ensure effective communication regarding issues and action plans in product development (manufacturing) to ensure timelines and strategic objectives are met.
  • Review product labelling and marketing materials for compliance with international food agency submissions and applicable regulations.
  • Oversee regulatory monitoring and horizon scanning activities review and analyze the new and emerging regulations and trends from government agencies that affect the company.
  • Oversight of all certification programs (Organic, Kosher, RFA, etc.)
  • Participation in the innovative process
  • Manage relationship between the company and the various regulatory agencies, and customers ensuring that communications on both sides are germane, specific, and convey all necessary detail.
  • Direct and manage contacts with outside consultants to resolve regulatory issues.
  • Work directly with FDA, Health Canada, trade associations and outside regulatory and legal experts to influence emerging legislation, regulations, guidance and FDA decision making.
  • Actively lead Regulatory Affairs function across the organization anticipating risks and ensuring organization is ready for any challenges.
  • Present timely and regular regulatory updates and advice to the senior management team with proposed action plans to meet compliance deadlines.

WHAT YOU KNOW AND HAVE EXPERIENCED :

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Quality, Food Science preferred.
  • 10+ years’ work experience in Food and Supplements (experience in both preferred).
  • Regulatory compliance and CFR Title 21 Part 111 (cGMP in manufacturing, packaging, labeling, or holding operations for Dietary Supplements)
  • Regulatory compliance and CFR Title 21 Part 101 (Food Labelling)
  • Food Safety standards, GFSI, BRC, PCQI, SQF, HACCP / Quality Management, production, & Manufacturing Systems

  • Demonstrated experience of leadership in creating Claims Substantiations
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing labels / content in Supplement and Food areas and risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience in CPG commercialization, having both large and small / startup CPG experience ideal.
