Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. The Surgical Technologist III is responsible for providing surgical assistance in a safe, appropriate and effective manner under the direction of a Registered Nurse / MD, in compliance with the Surgical Technologist standards of practice. It is not within the scope of practice of the Surgical Technologist to perform beyond their stated scope of practice (e.g. assessment, evaluation of patient data, administration of medications), even when requested by a Surgeon. Additional responsibilities include but not limited to provision of availability / maintenance of instruments, adherence to aseptic technique, advanced knowledge of surgical procedures and support to patient flow within department. Provides support and communicates directly with surgical team and supervisory staff. The Surgical Technologist must use effective oral communication and participate in aspects of documentation. In addition, the Surgical Technologist collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

5. Serves as a preceptor for new employees / students in the scrub role.

6. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.

7. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.

8. Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.

9. Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion.

10. Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job specific competencies.

11. Demonstrates continual development of clinical expertise and current knowledge of healthcare trends and education related to performance

12. Ability to fulfill the cardiovascular On-call requirement

Specific job related responsibilities and duties.

1. Assists with unit preparation for magnet

2. Meets population specific competencies

3. Participates in department performance improvement

4. Assist the surgeons with performing invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures

5. Provides patient care to the patient undergoing surgical procedures under the direction of an RN / Physician

6. Perform all aspects of surgical techniques / procedures including Cardiovascular procedures

7. Applies the principle of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to provide quality patient care

8. Possesses knowledge / skills in all surgical procedures and demonstrates ability to safely and completely use equipment / supplies in the performance of assignment

9. Possesses knowledge and skills of job specific competencies in the operating room

10. Other duties as assigned.

• Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications.
