Job description

Job Title : Sr. Controls Engineer

Location : Dearborn, MI or Grand Rapids, MI

Job Description :

The Senior Project Engineer - Process Controls is responsible for engineering and coordinating process systems, including manufacturing processes such as material conveyance, liquid mixing & delivery, pressure & temperature control, and equipment setup projects involving electrical installation of manufacturing machinery.

Responsibilities :

  • Understand mechanical systems and manufacturing processes for control system design; coordinate mechanical designs as needed.
  • Evaluate and develop industrial control systems, including hardware / software design, communication networks, power distribution, and field device selection for industries like electric batteries, electric vehicles, and industrial manufacturing.
  • Work with PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMIs, servos, and safety equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, local electrical and safety codes, and client standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams and clients to prepare or revise specifications and scope of work.
  • Create operation concepts, flow diagrams, P&ID's, system flows, and sequences of operations.
  • Design control systems, including control panels, PLC networks, I / O, motor controls, and layouts.
  • Design power distribution systems, including panels, bus ducts, receptacle panels, and voltage calculations.
  • Develop control schematics, select field devices, and prepare interconnect diagrams.
  • Estimate engineering costs for control systems and installation.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate updates to project managers.
  • Review contractor submittals and drawings for approval.
  • Approve fabrication facilities and equipment before shipment.
  • Manage system start-up, debugging, testing, and punch-listing.
  • Support and mentor engineering staff.
  • Review and approve as-built drawings.
  • Travel to client sites for inspections as needed.

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university.
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant work experience preferred.
  • Skills and Competencies :

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, Revit is a plus.
  • Experience with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), networks (Profibus, Ethernet, DeviceNet), and related software is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
