Senior Cloud BI Database Administrator

This is a long-term position with our valuable client in public sector located in Portland, Oregon. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Background : The Development, Data and Analytics Team provides the development platforms and the enterprise data in our Data Warehouses. We are focused on the successful adoption of Business Intelligence tools throughout the organization. The officially supported BI tools are : SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Tableau, and Power BI. We have On-Prem servers as well as databases in the Azure Cloud and in Snowflake. This Senior BI DBA will be assigned production support and new projects. Scope of Work : This staff should provide analysis, design, implement, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting for our BI databases and servers (On-Prem, Azure Cloud, and Snowflake). This position also must be able to do Tableau Server Admin and PBIRS Server Admin. This will be a mix of production support work, standard maintenance, as well as small to large projects. Required Skills and Abilities : Seven (7) years of IT DBA experience. Azure Cloud experience (Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps, Azure Boards, Azure Blob Storage, etc) Snowflake on Azure Commercial experience preferred This position must pass a criminal history records check. The work : Develop large-scale databases and data warehousing Perform database architecture and develop technical standards for large-scale databases for our data warehouse (SQL Server and Azure) on countywide or multi-department platforms. Troubleshoot problems and provide technical assistance to developers and database users. Provide project management and work with other departments or outside agencies to integrate data from multiple database platforms and data providers. Formulate scope and objectives for database projects; define outcomes; develop and recommend solutions; problem solve and build consensus with management, customers, and vendors to negotiate project priorities and outcomes. Maintain integrity and security of databases; coordinate and perform database software installations, upgrades, and patches. Design, implement, and schedule physical and logical database backups; plan and perform database restoration and recovery. Develop database scripts and triggers; migrate data between database environments (development, testing, and production). Monitor, adjust, and optimize space utilization and database performance. Act as an expert in database architecture and technical standards for large-scale databases and data warehousing The skills : Advanced experience with Azure, Azure DevOps, Azure Data Lake, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure SQL Server Advanced experience doing DBA work both On-Prem and Azure Cloud Advanced experience in data warehousing design, BI concepts and best practices Advanced experience working with developers to build ETLs for loading data for reporting Advanced experience in Tableau server administration, upgrades, and support Advanced experience in PBIRS server administration, upgrades, and support Experience that provides a plus : Snowflake experience Power BI experience Other Details : Is remote work permitted? By video call (Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts etc.) Roles and Responsibilities Day to Day Basis : This DBA Senior must be able to do database and server tasks with on prem SQL Servers and dbs and Azure Servers and dbs. This person will also be responsible for Tableau Server administration and upgrades / patching as well as PBIRS Server admin and upgrades / patching. Snowflake knowledge is nice to have.
