MCC is currently seeking a FABRICATOR in structural steel or sheet metal. Individual will be responsible for the layout, saw cut, shear, cope, bend, drill, punch, weld and otherwise fabricate various metal components out of structural shapes (I-beams, square tubes, angles, flat plates, pipe and solid rounds, while utilizing various types of welding techniques and fabrication procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Prior to welding layout, position, align, and secure parts as individual structural components and complete assemblies; if working with sheet metal will be required to use straight edges, calipers, combinations squares, framing squares, and rulers.
- Align and fit parts according to specifications, using various clamps, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers, etc.
- Position, align, fit, and weld to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints, and layout specifications, using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
- Set up and operate fabrication machines, such as saws, rolls, shears, flame cutters, iron workers, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drills; form and assemble metal components.
- Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions when necessary
- Weld separately, or in combination, using, aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, and other occasionally alloys.
- Be proficient in MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) as required
- Capable of working around and using overhead cranes and rigging, as needed.
- Maintain good housekeeping habits
- Turn in all time, required paperwork; to include vendor tickets, and material requisitions
- Operate equipment in a safe manner
- Operate heavy equipment and machinery in the performance of the essential duties
- Work with and around hazardous materials, as well as at heights and in confined spaces in the performance of these essential duties
- Drive a vehicle to various job-sites throughout working hours
- Maintain valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company policy
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for employee job performance
- Perform other duties as assigned

This position is designated as a safety sensitive position because it includes as part of the job duties operating a motor vehicle, the operating, maintaining, and monitoring of heavy equipment and machinery, and working with and around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces. This position is one in which a lapse of attention could result in injury, illness, or death. For the safety of the employee and others, the employee must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time while operating a motor vehicle, operating, maintaining, and monitoring heavy equipment and machinery, and while working with and around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferredMust possess strong mathematical skills and demonstrate a competency in the use of fractions and decimals.Proficient at reading a tape measure and angle finders with occasional need for calipersPossess a good working knowledge of heat related stresses and warping properties, pertaining to the assembly and weld out of various shapes and metal types, as required to achieve acceptable craftsmanship of fabricated itemsMust understand bend angles and degrees; with proper allowances for metal thicknessesBe competent at calculating metal stretch-outs and circumferencesBe competent at deburring, grinding, finishing and polishing, of raw edges, welds and joints of fabricated itemsDevelop good analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawingsVisualize objects in three dimensions from flat layout drawingsUnderstand cuts, copes, miters, takeoffs and allowancesWorking knowledge of stair runs and risers in relation to design and structural platformsAll employees must provide and maintain the required tool inventory for this positionUnderstanding OSHA regulations, codes, and ergonomics as it pertains to stairs and platform applicationsQualified safe operation in overhead cranes, rigging, and lifting practicesMust be able to work in a team environmentAbility to communicate clearly with other employeesGood organizational and time-management skillsAbility to complete daily tasks with limited supervision and minimal errors requiring re-workAbility and willingness to work overtime and non-standard schedule : nights, weekends and holidays as / if requiredA current valid driver’s license is requiredBENEFITS
