Job description

Head Of State Program

Red Wine & Blue is a national community of over 600,000 diverse suburban women working together to defeat extremism, one friend at a time. We are seeking a Head of State Program to provide hands-on leadership and support for our state organizing teams as they turn bold plans into year-round impact.

You are a people and project management powerhouse who thrives on structure, clarity, and action. You love turning complex strategy into actionable plans, solving problems in real time, and keeping teams inspired and focused in their day-to-day work. You lead teams by quickly recognizing (and maximizing) each individual's superpower and supporting your team with areas where they need growth. You bring calm to the chaos, energy to execution, and structure to scale and you have a good time doing it.

This role directly supervises five Director-level team members and serves as a key member of our Leadership Team. It is a full-time position based out of one of our 14 operating states (with preference given to candidates based in MI, NC, OH, PA, or VA). You're available for regular travel to target states and occasional all-staff or leadership team gatherings.

What You'll Do

  • Project Management
  • Work with State Directors to identify best practices (in-person and online) across state teams that drive innovation, increase efficiency, and improve outcomes.
  • Establish systems and processes to support day-to-day implementation of best practices, including rapid response, across state organizing teams.
  • Streamline integration of relational (Rally Your Squad) and distributed (TroubleNation) organizing programs across states.
  • Ensure clarity, cohesion, and alignment between state and national programs.
  • Model consistent adoption of tools and technology across the organizing department.
  • Develop a strong shared understanding of not just HOW to use these tools and tactics but also WHY we use them (i.e., the strategies behind them and the outcomes they help us accomplish).
  • Guide and advise on development and execution of targeted state campaign plans.
  • Streamline metrics and performance tracking across states so teams can more consistently identify and adapt what's working and what's not.
  • Team Management
  • Cultivate strong team culture through people-centered practices.
  • Provide direct coaching, feedback, and support to five State Program Directors who manage state teams.
  • Identify training needs and oversee the state organizing department's learning and development and knowledge management program.
  • Travel regularly across five key states to build meaningful relationships with state teams at all levels, observe their work in action, and provide real-time encouragement and coaching that fosters growth, excitement, and alignment.
  • Cross-Team Leadership and Communication
  • Advocate for the needs and perspectives of state organizing teams at the leadership level.
  • Translate organizational decisions into clear guidance for state organizing teams, helping to adapt organizational priorities to state-specific programs and local political environments.
  • Collaborate across departments (Data, Engagement, Communications and Media, National Programs, and Operations) to ensure programmatic alignment and seamless flow of information.
  • Other Responsibilities
  • Represent RWB externally through partnerships, coalitions, and public engagement.
  • Contribute to special projects and other organizational needs as assigned.

What You've Got

  • Experience :
  • At least five years of project management experience in political or advocacy-based organizing.
  • Experience working with data to inform decision-making. Comfortable with dashboards and data tools. You know how to move data insight into action for non-technical audiences.
  • Proven track record of building, managing, and maintaining high-performing teams; references from direct reports required.
  • Technical Skills :
  • Strong technical proficiency with project management and CRM systems like Monday.com and EveryAction are highly preferred. Experience with relational organizing tools (we use Rally) is desirable.
  • Project Management certifications such as PMP or Lean Six Sigma are highly desirable.
  • Communications :
  • You are an expert communicator who can break down complex ideas into clear, achievable steps. You recognize that people absorb information differently, so you adapt your approach to ensure everyone is on the same page.
  • Inclusive :
  • You thrive in diverse environments and collaborate respectfully across lines of difference. You work effectively with people regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, political background, or job title.
  • Flexible :
  • You are comfortable navigating sometimes ambiguous work with competing priorities. You are nimble and can effectively shift focus when the need arises.
  • Organized & Productive :
  • You have the ability to radically prioritize tasks and plan your days to meet goals.
  • Growth Mindset :
  • You have the ability to fail fast and win fast because you know that we learn as much from failure as we do success. You are not afraid to take risks, think outside the box and give or receive feedback.
  • Playfully Passionate :
  • Your ability to get sh
  • t done is accompanied by your love for fun. You understand that we can do serious work without taking ourselves too seriously.
  • What We Offer

  • Mission-Driven Work : Red Wine & Blue offers the opportunity to be a part of a movement fighting for democracy and social change.

Please note : Washington, D.C. applicants must live within the District of Columbia. We are not considering applicants from the surrounding metropolitan area.
  • Generous Time Off : New RWB full-time employees enjoy up to 15 days of PTO, 15 sick days, and 22+ paid organizational holidays (including a one week Thanksgiving break and a two-week winter vacation in 2025).
  • Competitive Pay & Benefits : The starting salary range is $90,000$100,000, based on skills, experience, and relevant qualifications. We take pay equity seriously and work hard to ensure our team members are paid fairly regardless of their gender, race, or other demographic backgrounds. In addition to a competitive salary, we cover 75% of employee medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums. RWB offers an up to 4% employer match on retirement plans and new employees are eligible after 90 days of employment.
  • We strongly encourage women, people of color, people with disabilities, non-binary candidates, and LGBTQIA candidates to apply. Interested candidates should submit their application here. Just send us your resume and a cover letter describing why you are specifically interested in the work Red Wine & Blue is doing, and a little about your project management background. We're not your average organization, so don't hold backtell us why you'd love being part of this wonderful and impactful crew. Get creative, be yourself, and most importantlyhave fun with it!

Because this is a critical leadership level position, the selection process for this role will include several steps to help us get to know each other. Candidates can expect a screening call, a one-on-one interview with the Founder / CEO, Katie Paris, a work sample, panel interview with members of RWB's Leadership Team, and a get-to-know-you conversation with the state team leadership. We anticipate the process - from the first interview to start date - may take up to 90 days.
