Position Overview
The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for coordinating building operations and maintenance activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective functioning of the facility. This role includes coordinating a team, supervising maintenance tasks, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The Facilities Supervisor collaborates closely with various departments to ensure that facilities are maintained to support daily operations, particularly in a shelter setting for children and families experiencing homelessness.
Areas of Responsibility
Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise and lead facilities, maintenance staff, and other support personnel.
- Train and mentor staff on proper procedures, safety practices, and equipment usage.
Building Maintenance & Operations
Facilitate regular facility inspections, identifying and addressing maintenance needs.Coordinate repair work, renovations, and preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other systems.Ensure all rooms and communal areas are clean, functional, and safe for residents and staff.Food Services Support
Coordinate with the kitchen staff to ensure proper sanitation and food safety practices are followed.Communication & Coordination
First point of contact for facilities-related issues and ensures effective communication across departments.Work closely with the Director of Facilities & Hospitality to prioritize tasks and allocate resources.Respond to emergencies, including after-hour calls, ensuring swift and appropriate action.Training & Development
Participate & support ongoing training and development of the programs for the facilities team.Keep the team updated on new technologies, safety protocols, and best practices.Understanding of Trauma
Develop an understanding of how trauma can manifest in a shelter setting and ensure the environment remains supportive and respectful for residents.Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities & Hospitality.Support non-operational departments when needed, including participation in special projects and events.Qualifications
Proven experience in facilities management and maintenance, operations, or related fields,Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and maintenance best practices.Familiarity with safety regulations, health codes, and emergency preparedness.Experience supervising a team in a fast-paced environment, preferably in a residential or shelter setting.Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills,Ability to work with diverse populations, including individuals from various economic, religious, cultural, and gender backgrounds.Proficiency in basic computer applications and facility management software.Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy objects.Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions.Working Conditions
Full-time position with potential for occasional evening or weekend shifts.Active work environment, requiring standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of food supplies.How to Apply
