Responsibilities
Demonstrates basic knowledge of the purpose, intent, and function of music therapy for hospice patientsDemonstrates basic knowledge of philosophical, psychological, physiological, and sociological bases for the use of music as therapyDemonstrates basic knowledge of the use of current technologies in music therapy assessment, treatment and evaluationInstructs patients individually in prescribed instrumental or vocal music and music projective techniques such as guided imagery, progressive relaxation, or awareness of conscious feelingsCommunicates assessment findings and recommendations in written and verbal forms by communicating with the interdisciplinary team and documenting in the EMRObserves and records accurately the client’s responses to assessmentSelects and implements effective culturally based methods for assessing the client’s assets and problems through musicIdentifies the client’s therapeutic needs through an analysis and interpretation of music therapy and related assessment dataSelects or creates music therapy experiences and settings that meet the needs of the clientFormulates goals and objectives for individuals based upon assessment findingsProvides preliminary estimates of frequency and duration of treatmentOffers sensory stimulation that allows the client to use visual, auditory, or tactile cuesPromotes relaxation and / or stress management in music therapy sessionsUtilizes therapeutic verbal skills in music therapy sessionsSequences and paces music experiences within a session according to the client’s needs and situational factorsCreates a physical environment (e.g. arrangement of space, furniture, equipment, and instruments) that is conducive to effective therapyDevelops and maintains a repertoire of music for age, culture, and cognitive differencesWhat You Bring
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA accredited universityBoard Certified as a Music Therapist by the Certification Board for Music TherapyMinimum of 1 year experience in a health care setting preferredHospice and Palliative Care Music Therapist preferredUnderstands hospice philosophy, and issues of death / dyingStrong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skillsMust be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and / or organization requirementsSeniority level
