If you can turn a blueprint into a repeatable, efficient CNC process, we want to talk. We’re hiring in Palatine, IL for a second-shift expert who can both set up and operate machining centers in a production setting. This is a long-term contract role with the potential to transition to direct hire .
Questions to ask yourself
- Can you confidently set tool lengths, dial in work offsets, and verify a first article on a Mazak or Okuma (Haas experience may also be considered)?
- Do you read prints fluently enough to ace a blueprint test during the interview?
- Are micrometers and calipers second nature when validating GD&T callouts?
- Will you keep parts moving—deburr, clean, and meet rate—while maintaining safety and quality?
- Are you comfortable handling parts from 1–25 lbs., with occasional lifts up to 50 lbs.?
What you’ll do
Set up and run CNC mills and lathes for production.Interpret drawings and verify features using precision measurement tools.Deburr and clean components using hand and power tools.Maintain quality standards and hit production targets in a collaborative, fast-paced team.What you need to bring
At least 3 years of CNC machining experience (operation and / or setup; not entry-level).Strong blueprint reading capability.Hands-on proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and related precision tools.Working knowledge of shop math and common machining practices.Ability to stand most of the shift and lift 25 lbs. regularly (up to 50 lbs. occasionally).Second shift availability : 4 : 30 PM – 1 : 30 AM, Monday–Friday , plus potential Saturday overtime.Preferred qualifications
6–8 years’ CNC experience with advanced setup / operation skills.Prior setup experience beyond basic operation.Familiarity with Mazak and / or Okuma controls; Haas knowledge is a plus.Supplemental machining coursework or training (e.g., Continuous Improvement Institute or equivalent).Strong organizational habits and problem-solving within a dynamic production environment.Technical competencies
