Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Theoretical-Computational Materials Science

The Simoncelli group in the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics at Columbia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in theoretical-computational materials science. The successful candidate will advance research in the theoretical formalism and machine-learning simulation framework to describe coupled transport phenomena, involving electronic, spin, and vibrational excitations in energy materials with an arbitrary degree of atomic disorder.

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly valued :

• First-principles and machine-learning-based simulation approaches for magnetic materials.
• Many-body Green's function formalism.
• Coding (Python, C++, PyTorch) and parallel computing (MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, Kokkos).
• Experience in research communication through conference presentations and publications.
• Ability to work well in a team and experience in mentoring students.

The position is expected to begin on January 1, 2026. It is funded for one (1) year, renewable contingent on performance and funding. The priority deadline for applications is November 24, 2025; applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
