Safety Specialist

Helping Hands provides HOPE and CARE through personal, trauma-informed programs to individuals experiencing homelessness.

Our programs are Trauma-Informed, Data-Driven, and Person-Centered.

We take the time to learn each individual's story and help connect them to the appropriate local resources and services to meet their unique needs. We do not duplicate available services; instead, we build strong collaborative partnerships with local programs and foster connections between participants and our community partners.

Position Summary :

The Safety Specialist ensures the safety and security of residents, staff, and visitors to the facility while fostering a supportive, person-centered and trauma-informed environment. This role involves monitoring the premises, responding to various safety incidents, and assisting with emergency preparedness and daily safety operations. Full-time, schedule varies, 24 / 7 / 365 environment.

Key Responsibilities :

• Monitor entrances, exits, shared spaces and camera views to ensure the safety of all individuals on site.
• De-escalate conflicts using nonviolent, professional communication and trauma-informed techniques.
• Conduct hourly walkthroughs and safety checks of indoor and outdoor spaces as per Basic Post Orders.
• Assist in implementing Emergency Action Plans, including drills and evacuations.
• Report incidents clearly and accurately, escalating to supervisors and management as needed.
• Support residents during safety-related incidents, ensuring dignity and respect.
• Provide crisis response support in collaboration with program staff and emergency services.
• Identify and report safety hazards or maintenance concerns.
• Engage positively with residents, offering a reassuring presence without intimidation.
• Maintain accurate documentation and reporting
