American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a busy Emergency Department position in a Level II Trauma Center, requiring a SD or compact RN license and strong trauma experience.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a hospital Emergency Department serving neonate through geriatric patientsLevel II Trauma Center with a high trauma volume, especially in summerUnit contains 33 beds including trauma / resuscitation rooms, behavioral health rooms, and multiple podsHandles 150-180 patients daily and serves as the busiest ED in South DakotaPatient care includes trauma, sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness, GI bleeds, stroke, pediatric, and cardiac emergenciesPatient ratio is typically 1 RN to 4-5 patientsUses Epic EMR, Omnicell, and Alaris systems; Epic experience preferredVariable 12-hour shifts with a range of possible shift start times; may require working every weekend depending on staffing needsFloating may be required to inpatient Med / Surg, PCU, or ICU as a task nurse onlyNo on-call requirementsResponsibilities include patient triage, evidence collection for assault cases, and high-acuity emergency careSupport staff includes ED techs, lead tech, 24 / 7 physician, NP, RT, phlebotomy, pharmacy tech, and securityStructured orientation includes 8 hours facility and 4 hours ED-specific education, plus at least two 12-hour unit shiftsMay be required to provide holiday coverage if neededNavy scrubs requiredFree parking availableTime off requires manager approval and is not permitted during the first 3 weeks of August each year\n \n Requirements\n
Active SD or Compact RN licenseCompletion of an approved nursing education programMinimum of 2 years of recent ED RN experience, excluding travel experience; 1.5 years may be considered with additional acute care background and management approvalCurrent BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS certifications; CPI or MAB / MOAB preferredComfort in caring for all emergency patient types, including sexual assault cases with evidence collectionExperience with ESI assessments during triageMust reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facilityFirst-time travelers are not acceptedMust not be a previous permanent staff member within the past year\n Benefits\n
