Our newly opened inpatient center for youth with acute behavioral health needs welcomes children aged 3-12 and adolescents aged 13-17. Located at CHA Somerville Campus, this state-of-the-art facility offers a transformative approach to patient and family-centered care for diverse youth with mental health needs.

The Adolescent Unit is a secured psychiatric unit within the Somerville Hospital catering to children between the ages of 12 and 18. As part of an acute care unit, we focus on assessment, stabilization, and after-care treatment planning, utilizing a multidisciplinary team approach that emphasizes self-regulation, de-escalation, and restraint reduction.

Job Purpose

The Milieu Counselor is a vital member of our multidisciplinary team responsible for creating a safe and structured environment while addressing the individual needs of patients in crisis in our inpatient psychiatric setting. This role involves assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), leading or co-leading groups, conducting safety checks, and providing one-on-one engagement with patients.

Key Responsibilities Include :

• Monitoring and accurately documenting patients' vital signs and intake / output.
• Assisting patients with ADLs, including bathing, laundry, toileting, and room organization.
• Providing nutritional and hydration support and attending to individual patient needs as directed by the charge RN.
