Reports to : Principal EAST TATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Length of Contract : Work Year : 9 Months (183 Days)
Specific Job Responsibilities
Supports the school nurse in promoting the health and well-being of students and staff
Assists with the care of ill or injured students according to established procedures
Administers prescribed medications and treatments as delegated by the licensed school nurse and in compliance with school policies
Monitors students with chronic health conditions and provides support as directed
Maintains student immunization and health records, documentation, and daily clinic logs as required by the State Department of Health and the Mississippi Department of Education
Monitors inventory and restocks needed supplies
Assists in implementing individual health care plans and emergency care plans
Assists the nurse in reviewing the health and developmental history of all kindergarten and first grade students entering school for the first time
Assists the nurse in conducting vision, hearing, scoliosis, dental and other screenings on students in designated grade levels as required by the State Department of Education and records this information on students' health record and refers to proper resources as needed
Follows confidentiality and privacy guidelines in handling student health information (PII, HIPAA, and FERPA)
Assists and maintains complete records on all school nurse activities
Adherence to the Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics / Standards of Conduct
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), or related health care experience preferred
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in working with children or in a school setting
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under the direction of licensed medical professional
