Salary : $58,000-66,000 DOE

St. Francis Center (SFC), an institution of the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, was established in 1983.

SFC is a refuge for people experiencing homelessness in the metro Denver area. Our programs and services are tailored toward adults and focus on daytime shelter, social services, health and wellness, housing, employment, outreach and an additional program that provides non-congregate shelter operations.

In SFCs delivery of services, the people we serve can work with a variety of specialists, depending on their individual needs, to establish the first step toward transformation, new beginnings and stability.

Department : Housing and Supportive Services

Exemption Status : Full-Time, exempt position eligible for an excellent benefit package as outlined below.

Location of work : This program is located at a privately owned hotel, the Comfort Inn (4685 Quebec Street), a 136-unit hotel being leased, and services funded by the City of Denvers Office of Supportive Housing.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Director of Shelter Operations reports to the NCS Shelter Director and works in collaboration with all shelter staff to ensure the Non-congregate Shelter site provides a safe, stable, healing, and supportive environment for hotel guests, staff, volunteers and the broader community. This includes responsibility for promoting the safety and stability of shelter guests, supporting the achievement of programmatic outcomes, and collaborating effectively with our operations partner(s) (Salvation Army, Comfort Inn staff / maintenance), and other entities to ensure a safe and dignified living environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Operations and business focused skills :

  • Ensures completion of all required documentation and data entry, in a timely manner utilizing HMIS and the daily communication log.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in tracking direct reports and compliance in data submission
  • Reviews all Security or shift change reports and logs, identifies, delegates and addresses issues as requested
  • Uses technology for communication, including Microsoft Office products (Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Excel, Word and any other required program (i.e. staff shift scheduling programs) May be requested to submit proof of use of Excel
  • Responds to e-mails, voicemail and other forms of communication in a timely manner
  • Coordinates and oversees the training of new staff and interns or other staff assigned to the project.
  • Monitors the ongoing training and supervision of existing staff
  • Provides prior examples of how oversight of this area has been conducted
  • Schedules regular meetings with direct reports individually and in group settings
  • Conducts a Daily meeting when needed to prioritize follow up activities and to ensure attention and focus on the highest priority is maintained.
  • Addresses staff performance and areas for improvement, and holds direct report staff accountable to department and organizational standards, policies and behavior
  • Offers timely feedback and recognition of staff excellence
  • Uses performance evaluations and individual development plans to help direct reports meet personal, professional, and organizational goals
  • Holds all staff and volunteers to the high standards related to safety, efficient service provision, guest care, and shelter cleanliness. This includes monitoring of PPE and protocols for responding to guest needs.

Skills for Resident Support Services :

  • Responsible for ensuring staff monitor daily activities using the Daily Activity Log. This includes issues, incidents, and other notable occurrences
  • Provides a consistent and welcoming approach to guests that builds relationships that are supportive and hold people accountable in an equitable manner.
  • People Skills and Coordination with Partners :

  • Works collaboratively, leads others and demonstrates effective interactions in a solution-focused daily approach, actions, and manner.
  • Develops relationships with program participants that are marked with dignity and respect that foster hope and empowerment
  • Provides a steady and consistent response to staff, guests and any person on the site; and demonstrates the ability to understand the why of a situation when problems.
  • Demonstrates respect, cultural competence and knowledge of trauma responsive care in interactions with shelter guests, staff and collaborative partners
  • Helps to coordinate and provide onsite access to case management support for shelter guests
  • Supports volunteers in working at the site by providing information and training for the work.
  • Engages respectfully with community partners and contract vendors
  • EDUCATION (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS)

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, humanities, psychology or another related field required and five years of management and supervision experience
  • Master's Degree in social work, humanities, psychology or another related field, preferred and three years of management and supervision experience
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in Non-congregate shelter, transitional or bridge housing or other housing programs required
  • Manage time effectively to meet all project deadlines
  • Organize future events and activities and to implement a successful implementation of the event(s).
  • Ability to communicate with written correspondence and verbal interaction
  • Conflict Mediation / Resolution Skills or willingness to learn
  • High Emotional Intelligence
  • Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds and experience
  • Trauma Responsive approach or willingness to learn this approach
  • Creativity and flexibility
  • Resilience and a thick skinned approach to work

  • COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    Salary is $58,000- $66,000depending on qualifications.
