Summary

Under the direction of the department manager and supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides nursing care for assigned patients. Performs care, treatments, and procedures within scope of practice and established guidelines and provides a safe and therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities

• Obtains information for assigned patients during bedside report, or hand off communication to / from another department.
• Implements patient care instructions per physician orders.
• Consults with and keeps Registered Nurse informed of activities, symptoms, reactions, and changes in the patient's condition with regard to assigned patients.
• Administers medication within scope of practice and established policies. Maintain the MAR (Medication Administration Record). Observes and documents patient reactions to medications to determine efficacy / side effects.
• Provides prescribed education to patient and family members related to health, treatments and medications.
• Participates in data collection related to patient status and needs. Documents all aspects of patient care.
• Provides appropriate pain management techniques and instructs the patient and family regarding pain management.
• Performs patient hygiene duties as needed. Completes and documents a patient assessment each shift.
• Performs nursing procedures and patient care per policy and procedure.
• Assists with admitting, discharging and transferring of patients.
• Assists with maintenance of unit safety.
• Assists with training / orienting new staff.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
