BEHAVIORAL THREAT ASSESSMENT CASE MANAGER

Occupational Summary

The Behavioral Threat Assessment Case Manager and Crisis Response Coordinator will be a core member of the Behavioral Threat Assessment Team working directly with the Director of Behavioral Threat Assessment and the Threat Assessment Investigator and will be involved in various aspects of behavior threat assessment, case management, violence prevention initiatives, victim advocacy, and behavioral crisis response. The case manager / coordinator will work collaboratively with university and health system partner units to support efforts to protect Duke University and Duke University Health System. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities, including conducting threat assessments, developing case management strategies, monitoring and tracking individual cases, ensuring compliance with recommendations, providing victim advocacy in cases interpersonal violence and stalking, collaborating with external agencies and law enforcement as needed, and providing comprehensive outreach services to faculty, staff, and students. The position requires a proactive approach to developing prevention and outreach campaigns related to workplace violence, interpersonal violence and stalking prevention, and other relevant topics. Inaddition to the case management responsibilities, the coordinator will assist the Director in establishing crisis response procedures and providing intervention and support to DUPD patrol officers in responding to individuals experiencing behavioral health crises and reported incidents of violence. The coordinator will be available for emergencies after hours and on weekends regarding relevant cases.

Work Performed

Conduct behavioral threat assessments and develop case management strategies for students, employees, patients, and non-affiliates.

Create and implement threat management and safety plans for individuals of concern and identified victims.

Provide outreach and consultation services to faculty, staff, and students through multiple mediums.

Conduct follow-up assessments on active cases using appropriate assessment tools and methodologies.

Coordinate intervention plans with university, health system, and community resources to ensure appropriate response and care.

Monitor and track individual cases utilizing a case management database to ensure compliance with recommendations and identify emerging concerns.

Collaborate with external community agencies and law enforcement partners as necessary.

Partner with various university departments to ensure comprehensive, multi-disciplinary case management.

Assist in developing prevention and outreach campaigns related to violence prevention, workplace safety, interpersonal violence, and stalking.

Serve as a member of both the university and health system behavioral assessment teams.

Collaborate with DUPD Criminal Investigations Division (CID) and Threat Assessment investigators to triage and assess incoming interpersonal violence and stalking cases.

Coordinate and assist investigators on follow-up for assigned cases, including conducting victim interviews and completing violence risk assessments.

Coordinate response and support services with relevant university departments (Human Resources, Counseling Center, Student Affairs, PAS, Health System Risk Management, Police, etc.).

Provide victim and witness assistance services to reporting victims and concerned community members.

Refer victims to appropriate university and community resources for ongoing assistance and advocacy.

Provide court accompaniment and oversee the design, development, and assessment of a 24-hour Legal Advocate Program to assist individuals seeking Domestic Violence Protective Orders (DVPOs).

Assist with collecting data for Clery compliance and the Annual Security Report.

Develop materials for distribution in compliance with VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) requirements.

Serve as the department's functional expert for interpersonal violence and stalking matters.

Follow established protocols for handling confidential and highly sensitive data and information.

Prepare departmental reports documenting interpersonal violence and stalking cases, including response details.

Engage internal and community resources (e.g., Student Affairs On-Call Team, Durham HEART) to support behavioral health crisis response.

Provide on-site behavioral health consultation and support for Duke University Police Department personnel.

Respond, in partnership with a DUPD patrol officer, to calls involving behavioral health concerns, mental health crises, interpersonal violence, or threats of violence.

Conduct behavioral health and safety assessments and provide supportive interventions to affected individuals.

Assist in de-escalating crises and identifying necessary resources for individuals in distress.

Conduct preliminary threat assessments to determine immediate risk level and identify contributing factors (environmental, medical, psychiatric, interpersonal).

Arrange for transportation to emergency or crisis facilities, and accompany individuals in crisis when appropriate.

Provide emotional, debriefing, and resource support to bystanders and others impacted by critical incidents.

Coordinate follow-up care with university, health system, and community resources.

Collaborate with university and health system partners to develop and coordinate prevention education and awareness programs focused on violence prevention, domestic / sexual violence, and stalking.

Educate the Duke community on identifying behaviors of concern and appropriate reporting processes.

Provide departmental training on best practices in crisis response and behavioral threat management.

Anticipated Pay Range :

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $61,535.00 to USD $95,880.00. Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires A Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, mental health, psychology, law Enforcement or other relevant degree. A valid North Carolina Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of start date.

Experience

Work requires 3 years' experience in the delivery of mental healthcare in a setting in which both trauma-informed care and crisis assessment.
