POSITION SUMMARY : Reporting directly to the Director of Media & Public Relations for WestCare California, the Communications and Media Specialist is a key member of the WestCare California Operations team. This role is responsible for the human-centered, program-focused creative design, production, and execution of WestCare California's marketing strategies. The individual guides the development and coordination of creative materials and branding initiatives, ensuring a consistent brand message across all platforms relevant to WestCare's programs in California. The Communications and Media Specialist collaborates with internal WestCare California teams to enhance the visibility and reputation of WestCare's California programs and services. This role also actively supports WestCare California's resource development efforts by leading and coordinating donation drives and contributing to fundraising initiatives.
This role requires regular travel throughout California to attend events, gather content, and support on-site marketing needs for program promotion. It maintains a functional reporting relationship with the Director of Media and Public Relations to ensure adherence to overall brand standards and to share best practices across the organization.
Essential Job Functions
- Creative Strategy and Execution : Leads the creative development and production of program-specific marketing materials for WestCare California, including digital ads, signage, displays, event collateral, social media posts, videos, reels, and photos. Manages timelines, adjusts in real-time, and ensures assets are organized across all California program campaigns.
- Collaboration and Coordination : Works closely with internal WestCare California teams (e.g., program staff, local leadership) and collaborates with the Director of Media and Public Relations to ensure seamless project workflows and timely delivery.
- Digital Marketing : Oversees email marketing and monthly newsletters for WestCare California audiences. Leads the creation and design of social media content, including posts, videos, reels, and photos, for California programs. (Note : DMPR and CMS inputs are used to support distribution.)
- Website Content : Responsible for content strategy, creation, and updates for all program-specific pages on the WestCare California website, ensuring human-centered content. Coordinates with the Director of Media & PR for alignment.
- Operational Support & Travel : Manages administrative tasks related to marketing, such as event planning support, supply ordering for marketing needs, and other duties as required. Requires regular travel throughout California to attend events, capture content, and support on-site marketing needs.
- Digital Asset Management : Manages WestCare California's digital asset library, ensuring program-focused assets are organized, tagged, and accessible. Works with the Director of Media & PR to maintain asset consistency for California-based materials.
- Social Media Strategy & Content : Leads the creation and scheduling of program-specific social media content and campaigns, including design and copywriting. Coordinates with the Director of Media & PR to align with the overall strategic plan.
- Promotional Materials Coordination : Leads production of promotional materials for WestCare California and coordinates with the Director of Media & PR to fulfill needs for media kits and public relations efforts.
- Event Marketing & On-Site Support : Provides marketing materials and on-site content capture / support for WestCare California events, in coordination with the Director of Media & PR. Communicates travel capacity and delivery timelines effectively.
Community Engagement & Resource Development
Leads planning, promotion, and execution of program-specific donation drives to collect essential goods and resources for WestCare California's clients.Develops and implements marketing and communication strategies to support fundraising campaigns and initiatives, ensuring compelling storytelling and clear calls to action.Collaborates with program leadership and the Director of Media & PR to identify and promote specific program needs that align with donor interests.Manages the creation of promotional materials for fundraising efforts, including appeals, impact reports, and donor recognition content.Essential Qualifications
Experience : Minimum of 3 years in marketing, graphic design, or communications, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro). Familiarity with project management software and Microsoft Office.Design Expertise : Strong knowledge of digital and print design principles. Experience with design for packaging, catalogs, and digital platforms.Communication & Organization : Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Highly organized and efficient multitasker.Creativity & Problem-Solving : Ability to generate creative solutions with attention to detail and an analytical mindset. Comfortable with changes in a fast-paced, growing organization.Education : Bachelor's or Associate degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.Language Skills : Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not required.Working Conditions
