Job Title : Director of Technical Services

Reports To : Executive Vice President

Location : Austin, TX Full Relocation Provided

Salary : $120k - $140k / year

Purpose

The Director of Technical Services plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, safety, and efficiency of ready-mix concrete production and delivery.

This leadership position involves overseeing technical aspects, managing a team, and collaborating with various stakeholders to optimize operations and provide a world class experience to our customers, employees and the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

Quality Assurance and Compliance :

Develop and implement quality control procedures for concrete mix designs, raw materials, and finished products.

Ensure compliance with industry standards, specifications, and regulations.

Conduct regular audits and inspections of concrete plants, testing laboratories, and equipment.

Concrete Mix Design and Optimization :

Collaborate with engineers, suppliers and customers to create and refine concrete mix designs.

Optimize mix proportions for strength, durability, workability, and environmental impact.

Stay informed about new materials, additives, and technologies relevant to concrete production.

Review plans to ensure that correct mixes are being quoted and discover opportunities for value-engineering in collaboration with sales.

Prepare and submit annual TxDOT and City of Austin mix submittals.

Technical Support and Troubleshooting :

Provide technical guidance to plant managers, field personnel, and customers.

Investigate and resolve issues related to concrete performance, curing, and placement.

Address customer complaints and ensure timely resolution.

Research and Development :

Lead research initiatives to improve concrete properties, reduce costs, and enhance sustainability.

Collaborate with universities, industry associations, and suppliers on innovative solutions.

Pilot new technologies and evaluate their feasibility for implementation.

Training and Development :

Train plant personnel on best practices, safety protocols, and quality control procedures.

Foster a culture of continuous learning and skill development.

Mentor junior staff and promote professional growth.

Ensure department employees follow safety policies.

Environmental and Sustainability Initiatives :

Explore eco-friendly alternatives for concrete production.

Implement sustainable practices across the organization.

Collaboration and Communication :

Work closely with sales, operations, and logistics teams to ensure seamless coordination.

Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

Participate in industry forums, conferences, and committees.

Supervisory Functions

position requires the supervision of submittal preparation, the concrete lab and field representatives.

Job-Specific Functions

  • up to date with local city and TxDot specifications.
  • compliance related to safety, environmental, and government regulated policies.

Other Functions

Education / Experience

  • years of similar or related experience. Ten years is preferred.
  • State of Texas driver’s license required along with a valid automobile liability insurance policy that meets or exceeds required limits of liability coverage.
