Activities Coordinator Needed Boston Cambridge Somerville

Two opportunities 20 hours and 30 hours, both benefit eligible.

The Elder Service Plan is a comprehensive program designed for frail elders who are nursing home eligible but wish to remain at home. The program provides general primary care, rehab, and wellness services at an Adult Day Center and at home. It also uses a team approach to coordinate all health, medical, and social services needed to maintain the frail elder's independence.

The Activities Coordinator will :

  • Develop and implement a plan of therapeutic activities for each participant to promote optimal health, independence, and self-care.
  • Perform initial, semi-annual, and annual assessment of all participants.
  • Oversee the assessment of individual abilities, needs, and preference through an activities profile.
  • Identify problems, establish realistic goals, and set up treatment plans utilizing therapeutic activities.
  • Utilize input from restorative service consultants to improve or maintain functional and cognitive ability through therapeutic activities.
  • Be accountable for contributing to and carrying out the recreation care plan for each participant.
  • Plan, organize, and carry out individual and group activities tailored to the needs and limitations of frail elderly persons following the PIESS protocol.
  • Demonstrate ability for creative arts activities.
  • Orient new participants to the program.

Qualifications :

  • B.S. degree preferred in Recreational Therapy or B.S in an allied field.
  • National Certification by the N.C.C.A.P required.
  • Two or more years experience in an adult social or recreational program.
  • Ability to develop and implement therapeutic programs for both individuals and groups.
  • Flexibility, initiative, creativity, and organizational skills.
  • Physically capable of lifting and handling maximal assist participants with transfers.
  • Willing to assist with toileting and other duties outside the traditional role.
  • One year clinical experience working with the geriatric population.
  • Ability to drive or transport self to multiple locations.
